Recording 2011
Recording Weekend #1 Recap;
So, as you may already know, Bad Design is recording a new full length album. We are doin’ it in Denton with Michael Biggs. This was our first of several weekends to come. So far, we have been fighting our musical demons, who apparently don’t want us to record this album. haha
Day one was off to a great start. Every one had high hopes. We arrived at the Baish residence, set up quickly, and an hour later we were ready to start recording. John was tuning up his guitar when he suddenly snapped his tuning key right off. So off he went to the guitar shop to have it fixed. Back a few minutes later, he plugged in Steve’s back up guitar and we were off and playing. Things were going well. The mood and feeling was a little lacking, but we were getting good stuff down. Things were starting to really click, then boom! Steve’s amp suddenly decided not work on his distorted second channel. The tubes weren’t glowing, and it definitely wasn’t making a sound. So Steve ran to his brothers house to barrow an amp. He got back a few minutes later, again we plugged in and we were off and running. Things were sounding awesome despite the changing of equipment. towards the end of day one of JP’s basses totally randomly decided not to work, so we had to stop using that. All together the day had put us in a strange mood, and there was no really coming back from that. We called it.
Highlight of Day One - the delicious organic apple juice that Michael offered us, and the J & J’s pizzas that Tony Ferraro delivered. ha
Day two was a different story all together, we showed up, everything was already set up, and we immediately started rolling. Everyone was kinda put out by day one, but somehow that made for some great musical hoodoo voodoo on day 2. ha! We were hitting songs pretty constantly, and on a good pace to finish by the end of the day. We are recording this album live so sometimes it takes a few try’s to nail a song just right. But after playing and re-playing the songs we decided on a number of tunes to get done, and that’s what we did. We powered through, and we came out with some great results! We have yet to do some over dubbing and vocal work, but that’s what the next few weekends are for. So, more to come.
